Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers about choosing your drone, getting ready to fly, and your order.

Choosing Drone Models

Start with your usual bait weight and whether you'd like a live camera view. FD1+ keeps bait dropping simple, while FD3 Advanced adds a 4K camera for checking the water and lining up drops. FD2 Basic and Advanced are options for heavier rigs. Our model comparison is a handy place to narrow it down.

You can drop bait without a camera or phone using FD1+ or FD2 Basic. If you'd like to see where you're placing your bait, choose FD3 Advanced or FD2 Advanced. Their controllers display live video, and a compatible phone adds FDFly app features. Choose around how you like to fish.

Our standard fishing-drone packages include the aircraft, controller, one flight battery, propellers, aquaRID FAA remote ID, bait release, charger and carry case. Cameras and extras depend on the model and bundle you select. Check that product's In the Box section before checkout, especially if you're planning to add batteries for a longer day out.

Yes. FD1+, FD2 and FD3 Advanced have IP67-rated aircraft designed for saltwater fishing. Controllers have different protection ratings, so keep yours out of the water. Before heading out, check the seals and battery cover. After fishing, follow your model's cleaning and maintenance guide to keep salt from building up.

For recreational flying, you'll need TRUST, FAA registration and a Remote ID-compliant setup, unless an applicable exception allows otherwise. Keep the drone within visual line of sight and check local fishing and launch restrictions. Before your first trip, confirm the Remote ID setup for your exact aircraft and review the FAA recreational guidance and Remote ID guidance.

Fisherman FD1+

FD1+ uses the 4200mAh 6S LiHV flight battery shared with FD3 Advanced. A full charge takes about two hours with the matched charger. Use an approved LiHV charging setup, and check compatibility before reusing another model's charger. For longer breaks between trips, follow the battery storage steps in the FD1+ manual.

FD1+ is a camera-free bait-dropping drone. Its controller shows flight information, including distance and battery status, so a camera isn't needed to release your bait. If a live view is important to you, FD3 Advanced or FD2 Advanced is a better starting point. Check compatibility with us before buying any camera for FD1+.

The standard package includes the drone, controller, aquaRID FAA remote ID, landing gear, one flight battery, four propellers, bait release, charger, power adapter, charging cables and carry case.

FD1+ replacement parts are listed in our accessories store, with stock shown on each item. Compatibility varies, so check the listing rather than assuming a part from another model will fit. For a replacement aircraft or controller, contact support with your existing model and part details before buying.

No. FD1+ is flown with its own controller, so you don't need to connect a phone. You control the flight and bait release directly, with distance and other flight information on the controller. It doesn't offer FDFly waypoint missions or saved fishing spots. Start with a few short practice flights to get comfortable.

Yes. You can trigger Return to Home from the controller after a drop, rather than waiting for a low-battery warning. Check that the home point is recorded and the return path is clear. If you're on a moving boat, don't assume it will follow you. Review the boat-operation guidance before launching.

FD1+ has a maximum payload of 4.8 lb (2.2 kg) and a specified maximum flight distance of 1,300 m, about 0.8 mile. Weigh the whole rig, including bait and sinkers. Payload, wind and line drag affect your usable range, so keep the drone in sight and leave enough battery for the return.

Yes. Current FD1+ orders include a Remote ID unit at no extra cost, so there's no need to buy one separately. Before flying in the U.S., follow the setup instructions and complete the applicable FAA registration steps. If you'd like a hand with your setup, our store team is here to help.

Fisherman MAX FD2 (Basic and Advanced)

FD2 uses its own 4500mAh 6S LiPo battery, not the FD1+/FD3 Advanced LiHV pack. The published maximum flight time is 28 minutes with no load and no wind. Bait weight and conditions reduce that time. Use the matched FD2 charger, and consider a spare battery if you'd like more time between charging breaks.

We list FD2 batteries, propellers and other service parts in our accessories store. Stock and compatibility depend on the item. If you need an aircraft-only replacement or want to reuse a controller, send support your model and serial number first. We'll check the available options and pairing requirements for your setup.

Basic is for bait dropping without a camera. Advanced adds a 4K camera, a live-view controller and FDFly app support for features such as saved fishing spots. Both are controlled from their supplied remotes. If you already own Basic, check the full upgrade requirements with us before buying a camera on its own.

The standard kit includes the drone, controller, one flight battery, four propellers, aquaRID FAA remote ID, bait release, charger, cables, float attachments and carry case. The Advanced kit includes the 4K camera and live-view controller; Basic is the camera-free version. Extra-battery bundles add to the standard kit. Check your selected version and bundle so you know exactly what's arriving.

FD2 supports a maximum total payload of 7 lb (3.2 kg), including bait, sinkers and tackle. Its specified maximum flight distance is 1,500 m, about 0.9 mile. Those limits aren't a promise of full-load return range. Plan around the day's conditions, keep the drone in sight and allow a comfortable battery reserve.

The standard Advanced camera is a 4K visible-light camera. It doesn't provide thermal imaging or dedicated night vision, and the live image needs enough light to be useful. If you're planning to fish after dark, don't rely on the camera to guide the flight. Check the lighting and flight requirements for your location first.

FD2 has Return to Home, including low-battery and signal-loss functions under the conditions in the manual. It doesn't have automatic obstacle avoidance. Check the home point and return height, and keep the flight path clear. For water landings, the correct float attachments must be fitted. Practise these controls before your first offshore drop.

Yes. Current FD2 Basic and Advanced orders include a Remote ID unit at no extra cost, so there's no need to buy one separately. Before flying in the U.S., follow the setup instructions and complete the applicable FAA registration steps. Already own an FD2 and unsure about your setup? Our store team can help.

Fisherman FD3 Advanced

The fishing package includes a 4K camera and a controller with a live-view screen. You can tilt the camera to check the water and line up your drop. It's a visible-light camera, without dedicated night vision or thermal imaging. Daylight, glare and water clarity affect what you can see, so choose a spot with a clear view.

Yes. FD3 Advanced uses the 4200mAh 6S LiHV battery shared with FD1+. For other parts, check each listing's compatible models before ordering. Browse our accessories store for current availability. For an aircraft-only replacement or a hard-to-find part, send support a photo and your serial number so we can help you find the right option.

The standard Advanced fishing kit includes the drone, controller, 4K camera, one flight battery, four propellers, aquaRID FAA remote ID, bait release, charger, charging cables, phone mount and carry case. Extra batteries and propellers depend on the bundle you choose. Check the item list for your selected Advanced bundle so you know exactly what's arriving.

Yes, FD3 Advanced supports saved fishing spots and automated bait-drop missions through the FDFly app on a compatible phone. You can also fly and release bait directly from the controller. Follow the setup guide and try a short mission first. Keep the drone in sight and stay ready to take control throughout the flight.

Yes. Current FD3 Advanced orders include Remote ID at no extra cost, so you don't need to buy it separately. U.S. packages include an external AquaRID module. Follow the module's setup instructions and complete the applicable FAA registration steps before flying in the U.S. Our store team can help if you're unsure about your setup.

The aircraft is rated IP67, but the controller is rated IP54. That means the controller has splash protection and should not be submerged or rinsed like the aircraft. Keep it dry when wading or launching near the surf. After saltwater use, follow the FD3 Advanced maintenance instructions for each part of the system.

FD3 Advanced carries up to 4.4 lb (2 kg), including the whole bait rig. Its maximum flight time is 27 minutes with no load and no wind. The number of drops depends on bait weight, distance, wind and battery condition. A spare battery is useful for longer sessions. Start with shorter drops and leave enough charge to return comfortably.
